To support work at the intersection of immigration and education reform, CPER partnered with the Four Freedoms Fund (FFF) to create the CPER/FFF Special Opportunities Fund. The FFF is a national funding collaborative created to energize American democracy by supporting and engaging immigrants and refugees. Like CPER, the FFF is managed by Public Interest Projects. The CPER/FFF Special Opportunities Fund is funded by the Ford Foundation, which supports both CPER and FFF.
The CPER/FFF Special Opportunity Fund seeks to support organizations working in sites already funded by FFF and CPER: Chicago, Denver, New Jersey and Philadelphia. Organizations that receive FFF and/or CPER funding are eligible to apply for grants from the pooled fund, as are coalitions in which FFF and/or CPER-funded organizations play a leadership role.
These one-time CPER/FFF special opportunity grants are designed to support community-based organizations working to improve educational opportunities for immigrant children. All special opportunity grantees are led by their constituents, have committed to developing leaders and membership, and are actively engaged in state/national immigrant rights and education-reform networks.
The following organizations have received funding through the CPER/FFF Special Opportunities Fund:
- Chicago - Albany Park Neighborhood Council (APNC) and Logan Square Neighborhood Association (LSNA)
- Denver - Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition (CIRC), Metro Organizations for People (MOP) and Padres Unidos
- New Jersey - New Jersey Immigration Policy Network (NJIPN), in collaboration with Statewide Parent Advocacy Network (SPAN) and American Friends Service Committee (AFSC)
- Philadelphia - Southeast Asian Mutual Assistance Associations Coalition (SEAMAAC), in collaboration with JUNTOS, Education Law Center (ELC), the Philadelphia Public School Notebook (the Notebook), Eastern Pennsylvania Organizing Project (EPOP) and Pennsylvania Immigration and Citizenship Coalition (PICC)
