Pennsylvania ACORN

Philadelphia ACORN has been organizing for low and moderate income families since 1977. Since then, ACORN has grown to more than 6,000 member families divided into 10 neighborhood chapters throughout the city. ACORN has been at the forefront of issues affecting low and moderate-income Philadelphians for nearly 30 years. Philadelphia ACORN organizes around important issues such as landlord/tenant rights, utility shutoffs, vacant lots and abandoned homes.

CPER Funded Project

Pennsylvania ACORN's CPER funded work includes:

  • Expanding a network of citizens informed and engaged around the issues of equitable school funding and quality education;
  • Strengthening the ability of advocates, parents and citizens to hold policymakers accountable to improving schools equitably and increasing collaboration at local school level between parents and school administrators on issues of immediate concern to local school;
  • Demonstrating an increased level of equity between schools through increasing support within the state legislature for equitable funding formula and short-term improvements in equitable and adequate education funding; and
  • Increasing coordination and collaboration at a state level between education organizing groups by developing a Southeastern Pennsylvania regional expansion plan.
