Metro Organizations for People (MOP) is a 27 year-old federation of 35 member schools, congregations, youth and neighborhood associations, representing 55,000 people in the Metro-Denver Area with chapters in western and southern Colorado. MOP is affiliated with the PICO National Network.
MOP works to build metro-wide and state-wide power, in order to tackle social justice issues at the local, regional and state-wide level. The social change agenda is executed through grassroots community organizing, leadership development, non-partisan political education and organizing, and influence through research and communications.
CPER Funded Project
MOP's CPER funding focuses on expanding parent and student organizing within Denver Public Schools (DPS) and in other school districts in the Denver-Metropolitan Area toward the overall goal of increasing achievement in high poverty, low performing schools. MOP's CPER funded work includes:
- Getting a weighted student funding budget process implemented within DPS;
- Developing a quadrant-level reform model for Northeast Denver schools;
- Securing and building a dual-enrollment high school reform model;
- Securing in-state tuition for immigrant students; and
- Supporting the creation of zones of innovation.
