Good Schools Pennsylvania (GSPA) is a statewide non-profit organization working to build a civic climate that insists on a high quality public education for all students. Formed in 2001, its mission is to inform, ally and mobilize citizens around platforms that call for adequate and equitable funding of every school districts, implementation of education programs and accountability measures designed to support student achievement.
CPER Funded Project
GSPA's CPER funded work includes:
- Expanding a network of citizens informed and engaged around the issues of equitable school funding and quality education;
- Providing public officials with a compelling body of evidence produced by advocates and constituents that documents the gaps among school districts;
- Demonstrating short-term improvements of equity and adequacy in education funding gained through the annual state budget process;
- Strengthening the ability of advocates, parents and citizens to hold policymakers accountable to improving schools equitably by using the results of the statewide costing out study as an impetus to establish a new school funding formula, and/or for commission or other vehicle for further improving or sustaining the formula; and
- Increasing coordination and collaboration at the state level between education organizing groups.
